How to get to our offices:

You are welcome to come visit our facilities and view MIRRORCLE technology in action, however please make an appointment first. Various business activities make staff unavailable and experimental preparation or scheduled maintenance may mean that the synchrotron is temporarily shut down.

From Minami Kusatsu Station: For previously planned meetings PPL can make arrangements for you to be picked up from Minami Kusatsu station. If for some reason you can not make the arranged meeting, the following will be helpful. Most taxi drivers at Minami Kusatsu station do not speak english so it is important to carry instructions in Japanese prepared here in PDF format.

From Kyoto: At the main JR train station in Kyoto locate the platform entrance marked "2·3 Biwako Line for Kusatsu, Maibara" and take a local train bound for Maibara. "Local trains" are identified by the "Local" signs in small letters on the train windows and on the sign at the front of the train. Do not take an express or rapid service train as they do not stop at all stops. It will take approximately 20 minutes before reaching the 6th stop, Minami Kusatsu station, which is your destination stop. Depending on where you started the trip and how previous ticketing arrangements were made, you may have to pay the ¥320 fare when you leave the gates at Minami Kusatsu station.

From Osaka: From Kansai airport (KIX), after clearing passport control and customs you will enter the main arrival hall. Follow the train signs directing you to the 2nd floor and exit via door "E". Straight ahead from this exit in the next building you will find the JR Rail ticket office (green signs) on your lefthand side. Purchase tickets for the Haruka Airport Express to Kyoto for about ¥3000. Across the isle is the JR gate (with overhead blue signs) for the train, and down the escalator to platform 4 you can catch the Kyoto bound Haruka Airport Express. Travel time is approximately 72 minutes and once in Kyoto station follow the from Kyoto instructions.

From Tokyo: Take the Narita Express from Narita Airport (NRT) to Tokyo Station. At the JR office buy train tickets for the famous Japanese bullet train, the Shinkansen, to Kyoto. Then follow the above instructions from Kyoto.

Ritsumeikan University Biwako Campus offers a limited number of on campus guest suites for ¥4000/night. Arrangements should be made in advance to ensure availability. To make your stay more convenient a map of campus can be found here

For visitors that want to add a bit of sightseeing consider getting a JR Rail Pass. It allows for very flexible travel arrangements at a tremendous discount. They are sold only to non-residents, and only outside of Japan.

Japan is in the JST time zone which is GMT+9. The national holidays of Japan can be found here and weather forecast here.
